April 7th:

Tried recording "Rejuvenesence" by Luna Sea, but it sucked since I'm still learning the song.  All good.  Even so, got pretty fatigued after the third singthrough... it was easier to do when I was putting more power behind it, to be honest.  Sang a song at karaoke tonight, and it sucked something terrible.  Even though I'd like to blame the monitors (or otherwise not being able to hear the music) as well as the music being in a different key (maybe?), there's nobody to blame but myself.  Ultimately, the only thing that matters is if it sounds good.

April 6:

I played with "Dejavu" by Luna Sea some more today.  I went all across the board on this one... from sounding weak to try to prevent fatigue, to being pretty reckless.  The middle ground wasn't too bad, and would probably sound fine with a microphone... I guess the only way is to record it!  I tried putting a few quirks in there too... little flair things with the voice to help personalize it.  Not sure how they sounded, so I'll have to record those too.

April 5th:

Finally finished moving everything today, so I'll be able to sit around and sing/post videos.  I messed a little with screaming today, with little luck.  Do I need to move the placement of the scream to be more forward and in my mouth?  Stupid Coldrain.

Also sang some Gackt ("Emu" and "Dears") and TM Revolution ("Love Saver" again).  Joked around with some epiglottal stoppage to get that machine gun 'vibrato' that Gackt does occasionally... it's pretty silly, but surprisingly not as tiring as I imagined it would be.  Pretty tough to get consistently (without missing an oscillation).  I have to keep reminding myself that that can't be Gackt's natural vibrato, since he has a more normal vibrato when he sings forte.  Maybe I need to listen to more Mucc to see if that dude has a natural machine gun kind of vibrato.
April 4th:

Sang "Rejuvenescence" by Luna Sea.  Never knew the words, but got to work with them today.  The song hovers all around my passagio, but was surprisingly easy to sing.  I haven't bothered to figure out exactly where the notes fall on the scale, but I can feel it ALMOST being difficult.  That said, I'm able to sing the song without too much trouble.  Is it because it's just below my passagio, or because the song doesn't have a lot of volume?  I look forward to recording this one!

April 3rd:

Tried stupid stuff, which reminded me at how limited I am.  "Ignited," "Invoke," and "Love Saver" by TM Revolution -- can't make it through the former two songs, and the latter song sounds terrible.  The notes are just way too high.  Singing sucks.
April 2nd: I worked a bit on trying to find an easier way to sing things in my passagio (the break of my voice)... without much luck. "Rhapsodie" and "Your Place" by Tourbillon. No recordings... and I didn't really learn anything. I'm not sure it's even possible to sing something in my passagio without getting tired... for an extended period, I mean. My voice teacher would say to dumb down the consonants, but I don't think I'm pronouncing too much as it is... or doing too much with my jaw. I'll probably post a video of "Your Place" in the future.

Whelp

Here's my singing blog.  I'll post here every day for the month of April, as decreed by the pact that has been made.

April 1st:  Sang "Time is Dead" by Luna Sea (will post a video as soon as I get it synced up).  Learned a lot about the silly faces I make when I sing, and know now how to fix some of the bad facial expression habits I had before.  The song itself is challenging for me, since it's well above my tessitura... and above my passagio.  It's in an area of my voice where I can sing it full-voiced (with power), but at the expense of some strain/fatigue.  Some of the phonetics are hard to focus (the "ee" sound) when the pitch is so high, but this is one of the songs that I've learned to do that on.
